We offer NAVAJO
CHURRO Roving from the Spear S Sheep and Cattle Company in
Lander Wyoming. After shearing, it is carefully skirted (
all the really dirty wool is pulled off) and usually sent to a
mill in Michigan to be washed and carded. When it returns,
it is identified by color and weighed, and is then ready to be
purchased. Each color comes from a different sheep, and
though colors my appear the same, texture of the wool may be
different from sheep to sheep. Please e-mail us at
spinayarn@dteworld.com
for information on availability of colors and costs.
Sheep can change texture of
their wool from year to year because of ageing and from feed.
A lamb fleece is always the softest, and as the sheep ages, the
fleece usually becomes a
little bit coarser.
A colored sheep can also have color
changes to it's fleece as it ages. Some colors typically
fade or change from black to
silver, or brown to tan as they age.
There is no guarantee that the color
and type of fleece you get off a colored sheep this year will be
the same as it was last year.
A ball of roving is usually from
13 to 16 ounces.
Price per ounce depends on
fleece type and color.
